Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) has released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for November 2011. CPI for the month of November 2011 reached 109.5 showing an increase by 0.1 % when compared to October 2011, and an increase of 2.1%, when compared to November 2010.


A comparison of the CPI of November 2011 with CPI of October 2011, shows that the overall 0.1% increase was the net effect of increases in some groups, and a drop in one group, as follows: The group Miscellaneous Goods and Services group recorded the highest increase of 1.1% mainly because of an increase of Jewelries prices. The group Food, Beverages, Tobacco rose by 0.3%; Garments and Footwear ,by 0.1% and Furniture, Textiles & Home Appliances by 0.1%.

On the other hand, a drop of 0.5% was recorded in the group, Transport and Communications mainly due to the decline of air tickets for some destinations. Prices in the groups Rent, Fuel and Energy; Medical care and Medical services; and Entertainment, Recreation and Culture, remained stable.

Compared to the CPI of November 2010, the analysis shows increases ranging between 3.2% and 6.7% in all the major groups, with the exception of Rent, Fuel and Energy, which registered a drop of 5.7%. The highest increases were recorded in the groups Miscellaneous Goods and Services, 6.7%, followed by Entertainment, Recreation and Culture, 6.3%, and Transport and Communications, 6.1%, and the lowest in Food, beverages and tobacco, 3.2%.

A CPI exclusive of the Rent group has also been calculated. After eliminating the effect of rent, the overall index shows an increase of 0.1% compared to CPI of October 2011, and an increase of 5.3 % when compared to the month of November 2010.

Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) has released the preliminary estimates of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at current prices for the third quarter (Q3) of 2011. The estimates have been prepared based on data collected through the Quarterly Economic Indicator Survey and those provided by other source agencies.


The quarterly GDP in the Q3 of 2011, at current prices, is estimated at 164.82 billion Qatari Riyals. This represents an increase of 39.5% compared to the estimate of Q3 of 2010 valued at 118.17 billion Qatari Riyals. When compared to previous quarter [Q2 of 2011] estimates of 153.73 billion Qatari Riyals, the increase is 7.2%. The increase in quarterly GDP [both year-on-year as well as quarter-on quarter basis] has been driven mainly by expansion in the production levels of LNG, Pipeline gas, other gas-related products and condensates, coupled with increases in hydrocarbon prices.

An analysis by industry group, comparing the performance in Q3 of 2011 with the corresponding quarter in 2010 [Year-on-Year Basis] and with the second quarter (Q2) of 2011 is given in the following paragraphs. Readers are advised to keep the seasonality factor in view, while comparing the estimates with the preceding quarter.

In Q3 of 2011, the Gross Value Added (GVA) for the Mining and Quarrying sector is estimated at 97.74 billion Qatari Riyal, which represents an increase of 56.7%, compared to the estimate of Q3 of 2010 [62.38 billion Qatari Riyals]. It shows a rise of 9.2% compared to the level of 89.49 billion Qatari Riyals estimated for the previous quarter of this year (Q2 of 2011). Qatar’s production and exports impelled by LNG expansion and higher oil and gas prices contributed to this rise in the value addition from this sector.

The GVA of Manufacturing sector is estimated at 16.24 billion Qatari Riyals in Q3 of 2011 showing rise of 36.6% over the corresponding quarter of 2010 [11.89 billion Qatari Riyals in Q3 of 2010]. The expansion in the gas extraction has led to higher production of some downstream gas-related products, in particular Gas to Liquids (GTL). On year-on-year basis, Petrochemicals, Steel and Fertilizers also showed buoyancy in Q3, 2011.

However, compared to the previous quarter (Q2 of 2011), there has been a decline of 4.1% in the GVA of Manufacturing sector. Slowdown in the manufacturing activity in few products like Steel (-4.9%), Fertilizers (-1.7%), Petrochemicals (-0.6%), Refined Petroleum products (-0.5%) coupled with price fall, seen from the Producer Price indices [Q3 2011 over Q2, 2011, released by QSA on 27-12-2011] in respect of Refined Petroleum Products (-4.4%), Basic Chemicals (-4.4%) etc. explain the decline in GVA of this sector.

The GVA of the Construction sector at 5.36 billion Qatari Riyals in Q3 of 2011 remains more or less at the level of the corresponding quarter of 2010 [5.32 billion Qatari Riyals in Q3 of 2010]. However, the construction activity in Q3, 2011 shows a decline of 12.2% when compared to Q2, 2011 which is to be seen in the light of seasonality factor.

The GVA of the Trade, Hotel and Restaurants sector is estimated at 9.0 billion Qatari Riyals in Q3 of 2011 registering an increase of 12.8% over the corresponding quarter of 2010 [7.99 billion Qatari Riyals in Q3 of 2010]. Compared to the previous quarter (Q2 of 2011), there has been a rise of 9.3%.
The Transport and Communication sector generated a value added of 5.92 billion Qatari Riyals in Q3, 2011 against 4.99 billion Qatari Riyals in Q3, 2010 showing a rise of 18.7%. Compared to the previous quarter, Q2 of 2011, the increase was 15.8%.

As for Finance, Insurance, Real Estate & Business Services, the GVA is estimated at 18.34 billion Qatari Riyals in Q3 of 2011, showing an increase of 12.4% when compared to the corresponding quarter (Q3) estimate of 16.32 billion Qatari Riyals in 2010. Compared to the previous quarter, Q2 of 2011, there was an increase of 11.2%.

The contribution of the Government Services which includes the provision of public health, education and other miscellaneous services is estimated at 11.92 billion Qatari Riyals in Q3 of 2011, which is 34.9% higher than the estimate of Q3 of 2010, and 11.9% higher than the previous quarter (Q2 of 2011). The high rise in the level of Q3, 2011 GVA has the partial reflection of salary increase for Qatari Government employees, implemented with effect from 1st September, 2011.

Comparison of the CPI of September 2011 with that of August 2011, shows that the overall 0.1% was the net effect of increases in some major groups and drops in some others as follows: The Food, Beverages and Tobacco group recorded a rise of 1.5%, entertainment recreation and culture group.0.6%, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services group, 0.6%. Those increases were partly offset by the drop of 0.8% in the index for rent, 0.7% drop in garments and footwear, and 0.3% , in Transport and Communication . There was no change in the prices of medical care and health services.

Compared to September CPI 2010, the analysis by major group level shows increases ranging between 1.1% and 8.1%. the highest increase was recorded in the prices of Miscellaneous Goods and Services, 8.1%, followed by Transport and Communications, 7.3%, Garments and Footwear, 6.5%, and Food, beverages and tobacco, 3.5%. However, Rent group dropped by 4.3%.

A CPI exclusive of the Rent group has also been calculated. After eliminating the effect of rent, the overall index shows an increase of 0.4% compared to that of August 2011, and an increase of 4.5 % when compared to September 2010.

Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) has released the Producer Price Index (PPI) for the second quarter of 2011 for the Industrial sector. The Industrial sector covers Mining, Electricity& Water and Manufacturing.

The PPI for the second quarter(Q2) 2011 stood at 164.0 (2006=100) showing a rise of 38.8% compared to the corresponding index of Q2 in 2010. Compared to the first quarter 2011, the increase in PPI of Q2 was 10.5%. The increase at the overall level of PPI is the result of higher prices recorded in the Mining and Manufacturing sector.

More details on the changes at product group level is given below:

In the mining sector, the 11.2% rise when compared to the first quarter 2011, is mainly explained by higher prices: 10.6% in crude oil, 11.6% in natural gas, 25.1% in condensate produced by the oil companies and 10.4% in Condensate produced by the gas companies. When compared with the corresponding quarter, the increase is 42.6 %, mainly due to the increase in the price of condensate produced by the gas companies, 43.0%, crude oil 45.6%, natural gas 37.8% and Condensate produced by the oil companies, 37.0%.

Electricity and water prices remained at the same level as in the previous quarter but 0.8% lower than in the corresponding quarter.

Manufacturing witnessed an increase of 8.3% in the second quarter of 2011 compared to the first quarter 2011. The prices of refined petroleum products rose by 9.9%, followed by basic chemicals, 9.2%. On the other hand, reductions in prices were reported for some products in the grain mill group (5.3%) and the beverages group (2.3%). Compared to the corresponding quarter, at the overall level, the increase is 28.1%, while refined petroleum products rising by 38.9% and basic chemicals by 23.4%. On the other hand, producer price of cement and glass products dropped by (9.7%).

Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) has released the preliminary estimates of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at current prices for the second quarter (Q2) of 2011. QSA has used the information collected through the Quarterly Economic Indicator Survey and from other source agencies as well as the information from administrative records provided by other source agencies.

The quarterly GDP in the Q2 of 2011 at current prices is estimated at 153.73 billion Qatari Riyal. This represents an increase of 41.8% compared to the estimates of Q2 of 2010 [108.42 billion Qatari Riyal]; while compared to Q1 of 2011 estimates of 141.26 billion Qatari Riyal, the increase is 8.8%. Rising levels in the quantity of gas-related productions and high energy prices have been the main drivers of nominal Year on Year quarterly GDP increase.

An analysis by industry group, comparing the performance in Q2 of 2011 with the corresponding quarter in 2010 [Year on Year Basis], and with the first quarter (Q1) of 2011 is given in the following paragraphs. Readers are advised to keep the seasonality factor in view, while comparing the estimates with the previous quarter.

In Q2 of 2011, the Gross Value Added (GVA) for the Mining and Quarrying sector is estimated at 89.49 billion Qatari Riyal. Compared to the level recorded in the Q2 of 2010 with 53.40 billion Qatari Riyal, this represents an increase of 67.6%, and compared to the previous quarter of this year (Q1 of 2011) at 81.12 billion Qatari Riyal, it shows a rise of 10.3%. Details at product level show that the main contributor was the increase in the value added of Liquefied Natural gas (LNG) and other gas-related products. Condensates and other natural gas liquids (Butane and Propane) showed a major jump following the operation at full capacity of the two new LNG mega Trains.

The GVA of Manufacturing sector is estimated at 16.93 billion Qatari Riyal in Q2 of 2011 showing an increase of 39% over the corresponding quarter of 2010 [12.18 billion Qatari Riyal in Q2 of 2010]. Compared to the previous quarter (Q1 of 2011), the increase is 19.8%. The expansion in the extraction of gas reflected the higher level of activity recorded in the production of some downstream gas-related products, in particular, in the petro-chemical industries such as Gas to Liquids (GTL), polymers production and methanol. The start of operation of a new plant engaged in the production of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and Normal Alpha Olefins (NAO) also contributed to the overall growth.

The GVA of the Construction sector was almost at the previous quarter’s level. It is estimated at 6.10 billion Qatari Riyal in Q2 of 2011 showing a decline of 3.4% over the corresponding quarter of 2010 [6.32 billion Qatari Riyal in Q2 of 2010].

The GVA of the Trade, Hotel and Restaurants sector is estimated at 8.24 billion Qatari Riyal in Q2 of 2011 showing an increase of 6.1% over the corresponding quarter of 2010 [7.77 billion Qatari Riyal in Q2 of 2010]. Compared to the previous quarter (Q1 of 2011), there was a marginal increase of 1.1%.

The Transport and Communication sector generated a value added of 5.12 billion Qatari Riyal in Q2 of 2011 against 4.19 billion Qatari Riyal in Q2 of 2010 showing a rise of 22%. Compared to the previous quarter, Q1 of 2011, the increase was 3%. Within this group.

For Finance, Insurance, Real Estate & Business Services, the GVA is estimated at 16.50 billion Qatari Riyal in Q2 of 2011, showing an increase of 10.2% when compared to the corresponding quarter (Q2) estimate of 14.98 billion Qatari Riyal in 2010. Compared to the previous quarter, Q1 of 2011, there was an increase of 3.4%.

The contribution of the Government Services includes public administration as well as services of health, education… etc  is estimated at 10.66 billion Qatari Riyal in Q2 of 2011, which is 19.5% higher than the estimate of Q2 of 2010, and 4.7% higher than the previous quarter (Q1 of 2011).

Some slight changes have occurred to some components of the CPI for July 2011.The CPI for August 2011 reached 108.91 showing an increase by 0.2 % when compared to July 2011, and an increase of 2.1%, when compared with August 2010.

Comparison of the CPI of August 2011 to that of July 2011, shows that the overall 0.2% was the net effect of increases in some major groups and drops in some others as follows: The group Garments and Footwear recorded a rise of 3.5% following the end of summer sales, and the group Miscellaneous Goods and Services, has witnessed a rise of 2.5%, mainly attributed to the rise in the price of gold jewelry. Those increases were partly offset by the drop of 1.8% in the index of Food, beverages & tobacco, as a result of the decision taken by the Department of Consumer Protection to reduce prices during Ramadan, and a 0.5% drop in Rent.

Compared to the CPI of August 2010, the analysis by major group level shows increases ranging from 1.9% and 7.7% in the prices of Miscellaneous Goods and Services, by 7.7%, Garments and Footwear, by 7.6%, Transport and Communications, by 6.7%, and Food , beverages & tobacco, by 3.4%. Prices in the group of Rent were 3.6% lower.

A CPI exclusive of the Rent group has also been calculated. After eliminating the effect of rent, the overall index shows an increase of 0.4% compared to that of July 2011, and an increase of 4.4 % when compared to the month of August 2010.

Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) has released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for July 2011. The CPI for the month of July 2011 declined from 109.0 to 108.7 showing decrease by 0.3 % when compared with June 2011, and an increase of 1.9%, when compared with July 2010.

July being a summer month, many consumer items are on sale and hence it always shows the seasonal effect of price reductions.

A comparison of the CPI for July 2011 with that of June 2011 at the major group level shows a decline with 2.6 % in Garments and Footwear  and 0.8% in Rent& Fuel and energy.
Moreover, a decrease found in Food, beverages & tobacco with 0.4% affected by the decision of department of Consumer Protection that took effect from 15th July 2011.
However, there was a slightly increase in the rest of the CPI components .

Compared to the CPI of July 2010, the analysis by major group level shows increases ranging between 2.1% and 6.2% in the prices of all the groups with the exception of rent and Entertainment Goods and Services group.  The highest increase was in both e Clothing & Footwear and Transportation, where prices went up by 6.2%, followed by Miscellaneous Goods and Services,  increase by 5.31% , while Medical care, by 2.54%. However, Prices in the group of Rent declined by 3.58%.

A CPI exclusive of the Rent group has also been calculated. After eliminating the effect of rent, the overall index shows a decrease of 0.1%  compared with June 2011, and an increase of 4.3 % when compared to the month of July 2010.

Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) has released the preliminary estimates of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at current prices for the first quarter (Q1) of 2011. QSA has used the information collected through the Quarterly Economic Indicator Survey and from other agencies and Ministries/Departments.
     
Preliminary estimates of GDP for 2010 :

In line with the final revision of the annual estimates of GDP for the period 2004 to 2009 released by QSA on17th July, 2011, the preliminary quarterly and annual estimates for 2010 released in April, 2011 have also been revised. Accordingly, the preliminary estimate of GDP for 2010 at current prices attained 463.49 billion Qatari Riyal, which shows a rise of 30.1% over the GDP estimates for 2009 in nominal terms. However, in real terms, GDP most likely grew by around 16%.

Preliminary estimates of GDP for Q1, 2011:

The salient features of Q1 2011 estimates are discussed in the following paragraphs. However, users are advised to be cautious in the interpretation of the comparison with the preceding quarter because of the possible presence of seasonality.

The quarterly GDP at current prices is estimated at 141.84 billion Qatari Riyal in the Q1 of 2011. Compared to the estimates of Q1 of 2010 with 110.46 billion Qatari Riyal, this represents an increase of 28.4%; while compared to Q4 of 2010 estimates of 126.44 billion Qatari Riyal, this represents an increase of 12.2%

An analysis by industry groups, comparing the performance in Q1 of 2011 with the corresponding quarter in 2010 [Year on Year Basis], and with the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2010 is given below:

In Q1 of 2011, the Gross Value Added (GVA) for the Mining and Quarrying sector is estimated at 81.12 billion Qatari Riyal. Compared to the level recorded in the Q1 of 2010 with 56.26 billion Qatari Riyal, this represents an increase of 44.2%, and compared to the previous quarter (Q4 of 2010) at 67.71 billion Qatari Riyal, it shows a rise of 19.8%. The increase in value is the combined effect of higher volume of production of Oil & Gas (17%: Q1 2011 over Q1 2010) and higher prices.

The GVA of Manufacturing sector is estimated at 14.14 billion Qatari Riyal in Q1 of 2011 registering an increase of 19.7% over the corresponding quarter of 2010 [11.81 billion Qatari Riyal in Q4 of 2010]. However, compared to the previous quarter (Q4 of 2010), the increase is 6.2%.

The Construction sector, which for the last two quarters of 2010, has been showing signs of recovery, maintained an upward trend in Q1 2011. GVA has been continuously rising from 5.3 billion Qatari Riyal in Q3, 2010 to 5.8 billion Qatari Riyal in Q4 2010, and to 6.1 billion Qatari Riyal in Q1 2011.

The Transport and Communication sector generated a value added of 5.34 billion Qatari Riyal in Q1 of 2011 against 4.45 billion Qatari Riyal in Q1 of 2010 showing a rise of 20.1%. Compared to the previous quarter, Q4 of 2010, the increase was 15%.

 For Finance, Insurance, Real Estate & Business Services, the GVA is estimated at 15.97 billion Qatari Riyal in Q1 of 2011, showing an increase of 10.4% when compared to the corresponding quarter (Q1) in 2010.

 The contribution of the Government Services which includes the provision of public health, education and other miscellaneous services is estimated at 10.17 billion Qatari Riyal in Q1 of 2011, which is 20.6% higher than the Q1 of 2010, and 5.7% higher than the previous quarter (Q4 of 2010).

Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) has released the Producer Price Index (PPI) for the first quarter of 2010 for the Industrial sector. The Industrial sector covers Mining, Electricity Energy & Water and Manufacturing.    
   
The PPI for the first quarter 2011 stood at 145.1 (2006=100) showing a rise of 14.6% when compared to the fourth quarter 2010. The increase at the overall level is the result of higher prices recorded 17.1% in the Mining, and 6.5% in manufacturing groups.

Within Mining recorded an increase of 17.1 % compared to fourth quarter 2010 due to the increase in condensate 10.5%, Crude oil 20.3%, and Natural gas 15.1%.

 Electricity and water prices increase of 0.9% compared to the previous quarter.

Within Manufacturing witnessed an increase of 6.5% in the first quarter 2011 compared to the fourth quarter 2010. Refined petroleum products posted an increase of 9.5%, followed by beverages, 7.8%. On the other hand, reduction in prices were reported for some products in the group Cement and glass product (1.1%) and for the group Metal product, machinery and equipment (0.8%).

A comparison for the first quarter 2011 with that of 2010 is given at the overall level, the PPI for the Industrial sector increased on average by 22.2 % over Q1 2010. The overall increase is the combined effect of 25% rise reported in Mining and 13.9% rise in Manufacturing. Electricity and water decrease ( 0.1%).

Qatar Statistics Authority released the Consumer price Index (CPI) for June 2010. The CPI increased about (0.1%) from May 2010, while declined (2.8) from June 2009.

This decline could be attributed to the decline in rents in June 2010 compared to June 2009 in about (14.4%). The decline between June and May 2010 was about (0.4%).

Furniture and textiles group witnessed in June an increase about (5.8%) when compared with June 2009. CPI of this group was the highest during that period.

Qatar Statistics Authority released the preliminary estimates of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the first quarter of 2010 by economic activities in current prices.

The overall GDP amounted to (102.5) billion Qatari Riyals in the first quarter of 2010, increasing from (83.6) billion Qatari Riyals in the same quarter of 2009 and from (100.7) billion Qatari Riyals, i.e. the rate of change was (22.7%) and (1.8%) respectively.

The estimates indicated that mining and quarrying (which includes oil and gas industry) increased by (63.1%) when compared to the first quarter of 2009 and (0.8%) from the fourth quarter of 2009. Mining and quarrying share in GDP was about (52.5%).

Manufacturing witnessed a noticeable increase in the first quarter of about (15.5%) when compared to the same quarter of 2009 and (7.3%) from the previous quarter.
The increase in mining and quarrying and manufacturing mostly due to the increase of oil and gas prices and petrochemical products, which had slumped in the first quarter of 2009.

Construction declined by about (21.6%) from the first quarter of 2009 and about (0.5%) from the fourth quarter of 2009, Mostly due to the decline in prices of material, and the activities have slowed and there is draw down from built inventories of material.

Trade, Restaurants and Hotels, as well as transport and communications activity has slightly increased as witnessed by quarterly sample survey.

Electricity and water increased by about (1.5%) in the first quarter of 2010 when compared with the first quarter of 2009, and (25.0%) when compared with the fourth quarter of 2009.

Finance, Insurance, Real Estate & Business Services declined by about (1.3%) from the first quarter of 2009, and by about (4.5%) from the fourth quarter of 2009.

Qatar Statistics Authority announced that GDP estimates for the first quarter of 2010 by economic activities in current prices are preliminary.

Qatar Statistics Authority released the Consumer price Index (CPI) for May 2010. The CPI increased about (21.6%) from the base year (2006), while it declined about (0.1%) from April 2010, and (3.6) from May 2009.

This decline could be attributed to the decline in rents in May 2010 compared to May 2009 in about (16.0%). The decline between May and April 2010 was about (1.3%). The rents increased with (19.2%) when compared with the base year (2006).

Furniture and textiles group witnessed an increase of about (15.4%) when compared with the base year, and an increase of (6.4%) when compared with May 2009. CPI of this group was the highest during that period.

The QALM team will be conducting a series of awareness sessions along with the launching of the project.

The first session will be on Sunday 11th. April, 2010. It will be addressed to the staff of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs It will be followed by other special sessions for the main stakeholders of the project e.g., Supreme Education Council, Supreme Health Council, Council of Ministers, Permanent Population Committee as well as the president and directors of Qatar Statistics Authority.

During the sessions, participants will be introduced to the portal contents, its tools, how to use the statistical tree, how to create reports and charts  etc .. The session is expected to last for one hour approximately.

In collaboration with the concerned departments, the QALM team produced a reliable long term national time series of Qatar mid-year population estimates for the period 1984-2009. The time series is detailed by sex, age (single and five years groupings) and broad groups of nationality (Qatari vs. non-Qatari).

These estimates are essential elements for measuring all kinds of socio-demographic and economic key indicators, paving the way for developing, implementing and evaluating policies and planning actions. The estimated results provide a solid background for strategic decision making.

Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) has released the preliminary estimates of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at current prices for the second quarter (Q2) of 2011. QSA has used the information collected through the Quarterly Economic Indicator Survey and from other source agencies as well as the information from administrative records provided by other source agencies.

The quarterly GDP in the Q2 of 2011 at current prices is estimated at 153.73 billion Qatari Riyal. This represents an increase of 41.8% compared to the estimates of Q2 of 2010 [108.42 billion Qatari Riyal]; while compared to Q1 of 2011 estimates of 141.26 billion Qatari Riyal, the increase is 8.8%. Rising levels in the quantity of gas-related productions and high energy prices have been the main drivers of nominal Year on Year quarterly GDP increase.

An analysis by industry group, comparing the performance in Q2 of 2011 with the corresponding quarter in 2010 [Year on Year Basis], and with the first quarter (Q1) of 2011 is given in the following paragraphs. Readers are advised to keep the seasonality factor in view, while comparing the estimates with the previous quarter.

In Q2 of 2011, the Gross Value Added (GVA) for the Mining and Quarrying sector is estimated at 89.49 billion Qatari Riyal. Compared to the level recorded in the Q2 of 2010 with 53.40 billion Qatari Riyal, this represents an increase of 67.6%, and compared to the previous quarter of this year (Q1 of 2011) at 81.12 billion Qatari Riyal, it shows a rise of 10.3%. Details at product level show that the main contributor was the increase in the value added of Liquefied Natural gas (LNG) and other gas-related products. Condensates and other natural gas liquids (Butane and Propane) showed a major jump following the operation at full capacity of the two new LNG mega Trains.

The GVA of Manufacturing sector is estimated at 16.93 billion Qatari Riyal in Q2 of 2011 showing an increase of 39% over the corresponding quarter of 2010 [12.18 billion Qatari Riyal in Q2 of 2010]. Compared to the previous quarter (Q1 of 2011), the increase is 19.8%. The expansion in the extraction of gas reflected the higher level of activity recorded in the production of some downstream gas-related products, in particular, in the petro-chemical industries such as Gas to Liquids (GTL), polymers production and methanol. The start of operation of a new plant engaged in the production of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and Normal Alpha Olefins (NAO) also contributed to the overall growth.

The GVA of the Construction sector was almost at the previous quarter’s level. It is estimated at 6.10 billion Qatari Riyal in Q2 of 2011 showing a decline of 3.4% over the corresponding quarter of 2010 [6.32 billion Qatari Riyal in Q2 of 2010]

The GVA of the Trade, Hotel and Restaurants sector is estimated at 8.24 billion Qatari Riyal in Q2 of 2011 showing an increase of 6.1% over the corresponding quarter of 2010 [7.77 billion Qatari Riyal in Q2 of 2010]. Compared to the previous quarter (Q1 of 2011), there was a marginal increase of 1.1%

The Transport and Communication sector generated a value added of 5.12 billion Qatari Riyal in Q2 of 2011 against 4.19 billion Qatari Riyal in Q2 of 2010 showing a rise of 22%. Compared to the previous quarter, Q1 of 2011, the increase was 3%. Within this group.

For Finance, Insurance, Real Estate & Business Services, the GVA is estimated at 16.50 billion Qatari Riyal in Q2 of 2011, showing an increase of 10.2% when compared to the corresponding quarter (Q2) estimate of 14.98 billion Qatari Riyal in 2010. Compared to the previous quarter, Q1 of 2011, there was an increase of 3.4%.

The contribution of the Government Services includes public administration as well as services of health, education… etc is estimated at 10.66 billion Qatari Riyal in Q2 of 2011, which is 19.5% higher than the estimate of Q2 of 2010, and 4.7% higher than the previous quarter (Q1 of 2011).
